Level 5 Workshop

The level 5 Workshop is a mandatory tri-service workshop for 5th year cadets. This weekend exercise reviews topics like time management, dynamic instruction, ethics, personal development and more.

This year the training will be held in Saskatoon from 15-17 November. Please see 2Lt Drew before 7 October to confirm whether or not you can attend.

More details to follow.

WOII Review Boards

All Flight Sergeants looking to be promoted to Warrant Officer Second Class must submit a letter to Captain Walton requesting a Merit Review Board. Letters are due by 7 October in order to board on 28 October.

Your letter must contain the following: your name and rank, that you wish to participate in a Merit Review Board for the promotion to Warrant Officer Second Class, why you feel you deserve this promotion, and what you will accomplish if given this promotion.

If you wish to participate in the Review Board it’s a good idea to read up on Human Resource (HR) type questions.   A quick Google search will show you what types of questions you should think about ahead of time.   A good example of an HR question is “how do you deal with a difficult cadet”.   The review panel is looking at your thought process on how you would deal with such a situation.

You should also ensure you’re up-to-speed on your knowledge of drill.   This, for the most part should be fairly straight forward for you as we parade almost every Monday night, but don’t take that for granted.  Review the M408.01-M408.03 POs and the Drill Manual for standardized answers.

If you chose to participate in the board, 2LT Drew will provide you a preparation package two weeks before your Merit Review Board is scheduled.

Based on interest and availability we are considering providing an additional Merit Review Board later in the year. If you are unable to participate in this one but are interested in being promoted please speak to Captain Walton so we can make alternate arrangements.

If you any any questions or concerns please speak to an officer.

Operation Evergreen

Operation Evergreen is another mandatory activity that takes place over the 4-6 October weekend. “Evergreen” is the name we have given our fall Field Training Exercise (FTX). This aircrew survival weekend will be held at Camp Saskadet. We will once again be joining our fellow cadets from Melville and Preceville. Cadets will learn survival camping and wilderness techniques. This year we will be having a themed exercise that is more hands-on and activity based!

We will also require 3 screened parents to help out Mrs. Justine Walton in the kitchen.

Cadets are to be dropped off at the Memorial hall at 16:30 (4:30PM) on Friday, 4 October.

Cadets will be picked up at the Memorial Hall at 15:30 (3:30PM) on Sunday, 6 October.

Fall Gliding

Our Fall Gliding date is Saturday, 12 October. During this mandatory event, Cadets have the opportunity to go up in a glider at CFB Moose Jaw. As air cadets, you are required to attend a familiarization flight in order to pass your level. Transport from Memorial Hall will be provided. Lunch will also be provided.

Lunch is a boxed lunch provided by the Mess in Moose Jaw. It typically contains a meat or egg salad sandwich with fruit, vegetables, and a drink. If you have any dietary restrictions, please ensure you inform us when you sign up.

We will be outside all day, weather permitting so please dress accordingly. The morning can be cool and warm up throughout the day so dress in layers. Closed toes shoes are required. You will also need to bring a hat, sunscreen, and a water bottle.

Detailed times will be posted later in the month.

Technology Project

We are always trying to expand the program and offer different programs so there is something for everyone. Captain Walton is looking to offer an optional technology project. As air cadets, we would like to keep it related to aviation but are welcome to all ideas.

Do you have any ideas you would be interested in?

Is there a cool activity you did at summer training you’d like to expand on?

See an interesting project or activity and think we should try that? Let Captain Walton know!

Current ideas include:

  • A code club, building and coding some sort of game or program. Possibility of using a Raspberry Pi or a micro controller like a Adruino
  • Learning more about basic electronics
  • Build a robot to preform a specific task.
  • Build a fighting robot (battle BOT).
  • Build and program a homemade drone or RC airplane.
  • Build an air plane tracker like a piaware flight feeder. https://flightaware.com/adsb/piaware/
  • Tear down and rebuild a small 4 stroke motor
  • Air Traffic Control live simulation
