Monday 29 March, 2021 Parade – Virtual

This week will be conducted virtually. Please be logged into the google classroom ready to go for 19:00 (7PM).

Monday 5 April, 2021 – NO CADETS

We will be standing down for the Easter break so there will be no evening parade.
CAP will be held during the Easter break. For those who have expressed interest in assembling model rockets, we will be assembling on Monday. Please see below for additional details.

Effective Speaking

Those who are participating in Effective Speaking this year are to have their videos turned in no later than 28 Sunday, 2021 as we will be presenting them on 29 Monday, 2021.

We anticipate that we will be parading virtually until at least 26 April, 2021. Please check back for updates and this may be updated at any time.

Easter Break Activities

RCSU is planning some fun virtual activities to take place 5-9 April, 2021. Various courses are being offered including:

CAF Familiarization with 435 Transport & Rescue Squadron – will be a presentation on how they use their aircraft to transport supplies, air-to-air refuelling, and Search & Rescue (SAR) tasks.
CAF Familiarization with AVN Tech from 435 Squadron – will be a presentation on how they keep their C-130 Hercules airworthy and discussing their career and training.
Corporate Airline Facility Tour – Will be a tour of a corporate air operator and maintenance facility and will include detailed walkthroughs of various aircraft
Goals of the Artemis Program – The Artemis program is a humanities-first missions to the moon since the seventies. You will learn about the Artemis program, what it aims to accomplish, how it could help life on Earth, and how it will further space exploration
Health & Stress – A presentation and discussion about the link between physical health and stress.
History of the Space Race – Discuss the original space race, what we have accomplished between space races, and what the new space race is.
Human Synergistics – This workshop will show you group development through a fun activity. You will develop and experience decision making, interpersonal factors, group behaviour and feedback on team performance.
Ice Breakers. – Meet cadets from across the region from the comfort of home. Join in some inc breaker activities that you can bring back to your home squadron
Introduction to First Aid – In this session you will learn some basics of first aid and take part in a practical exercise to demonstrate some basic first aid skills. Steps of emergency scene management and treating some common injuries will be covered.
Journey to the Unknown – Caves are the last explored frontiers of our planet. With so much left to discover, amazing breakthroughs are being made right here in Canada. You will hear about some of the modern cave expeditions happening in the mountains right now and their discoveries.
Opportunities in Cadet Marksmanship – Learn about marksmanship from a member of a successful marksmanship team
Mental Health First Aid – This session will teach you some basic skills to recognize and respond to a mental health issue from the perspective of a first aider.
Opportunities for a Cadet Musician – A cadet musician discusses their experiences and unique opportunities she has had thanks to the cadet program
Opportunities for a Cadet Sailor – An experienced cadet discussed the unique opportunity and experiences they have has as a part of the Sail Training Program
Puzzles – Give your brain a workout and meet new people with an hour of fun puzzles and riddles.
Technical Advancements from Space Exploration – Discover major technological breakthroughs and describe how space exploration has contributed to them.
Trust and Teamwork – In this presentation you will hear about strategies to enhance your ability to lead groups by developing an environment of trust.
Virtual Instruction Workshop – This workshop covers a variety of techniques, best practices, and other resources that are available to you to help adapt your classes to the virtual environment.

QUALIFICATION COURSES
Pleasure Craft Operator Certificate (PCOC – boating license) – Learn safe boating practices and regulations required to attain a Pleasure Craft Operator Certificate.
Restricted Radio Operators License (Aeronautical) – Consists of virtual classroom and self study in preparation for the Restricted Radio Operators License (Aeronautical) exam. No prior knowledge or experience required. Topics will include general theory on how radios work to practical lessons like air law, distress, air-to-air and ground-to-air communication, VFR and IFR communications.

Rockets (Updated)

If you are interested in constructing a model rocket and have not previously picked up a rocket, please reach out to Captain Walton to see if there is extras available for pick up.

We will be meeting virtually via Google Classroom on Monday 5 April, 2021 at 19:00 (7:00 PM) to assemble rockets.

Summer Training 2021

Summer training will be primarily virtual this year. Many new course options are available but not much information has been provided.

There will be no in person overnight activities but there are plans for day activities pending local public health measures.
